Paragraph.

You Used to Call it Whining!

Please mom, all the other kids have one. I would love you even more if you would do this one little thing for me.  Paleeeeez?  Daddy, look at this bike it's too small for me, it doesn't allow me to fully stretch my legs.  Do you think it might be stunting my growth?  Oh no!  I may need a new bike sooner than I thought  What do you think Dad, you do want the best for me don't you?

You enter the world with he power of persuasion.  As a baby, you naturally plead for food and comfort and as you grow your needs become more in line with wants based on the world around you.  The question becomes, "What's really important to me?" As it turns out, persuasion is just the opposite.  It isn't what's important to you, it is what is important to the person or people you are trying to persuade.  The questions you should ask yourself is this. " Why should my audience want to do this for me?"  What benefits will they get?  How will their lives improve?

When a crying baby calls for food and comfort, the parents get peace and quiet when they meet the demands.  they get the satisfaction of knowing their baby is comfortable and loved by responsible parents.

So next time you think about asking for something, anything, try looking at it from the other person's point of view.  How and why should they do it?  They won't just do it for you or they'd already be doing it  What can you offer them?

Persuasion isn't all about getting people to change their minds.  It's about you, discovering the bigger picture.  How can you present a problem and a solution that benefits not just you, but all of the people involved?  You need to step into another person's shoes and see the world from their side.  Only then will you truly have the power of persuasion.
